Singapore Pools’ Digital Transformation Journey With iShine Cloud

When you’re betting on the outcome of your favourite sports game or lottery, you expect a reliable, secure platform to be at work behind the scenes. That’s the promise that Singapore Pools, the country’s state-owned gambling organisation, offers to its customers. In fact, the company aims to deliver a stable and seamless betting experience for its millions of users every day. To make this a reality, the company recently migrated its IT infrastructure to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). The move enabled the company to monitor, analyse and troubleshoot applications and services with greater visibility across all layers of its technology stack.

This is a crucial step in its ongoing digital transformation journey to stay ahead of gaming trends, stem leakages to illegal gambling operators, and still uphold strict compliance standards. To do this, Singapore Pools needed a platform that would be secure and scalable enough to handle the growing demands of online betting.

Yeo Teck Guan, the managing director of Singapore Pools, explains that the challenge is two-fold. On one hand, the more people wager on its products, the higher the revenue generated — and the more money it has in surplus to give back to the community. But on the other hand, too much gambling can have negative consequences, so it’s also important to monitor and provide help for anyone who might be in danger of getting addicted.

To ensure the integrity of its systems, Singapore Pools has also stepped up its security measures in recent years. For instance, the company has increased security checks and audits, as well as redesigned its entire security architecture. And when the threat of COVID-19 hit, it was quick to implement its Change Management Framework to minimise risk and impact.

The team at Singapore Pools is not only driven by a desire to give back to the community, but is also keen to make their workplace more agile and innovative. This is reflected in its employee volunteerism rate of 70 per cent last year, which is more than double the national average. And it’s not just employees who are making a difference – the organisation also partners with a wide range of social service organisations to create meaningful impact.

The partnership with iShine Cloud is another example of the company’s commitment to be a “Company for Good.” Established in 1968, the organisation is wholly owned by the Tote Board, a statutory board under the Ministry of Finance. It is the only licensed lotteries operator in Singapore, offering games such as 4-Digits and Toto, which generate profits for the Tote Board to distribute to charity and worthy causes. In addition, the company supports the President’s Challenge, donating more than 97 per cent of its operating expenses to beneficiaries.
